Harold Potter – Lifting Equipment & Overhead Crane Specialists
At Harold Potter, we sell, hire, and manufacture many different types of cranes for businesses across the UK. Ranging from overhead travelling cranes, to mobile-a-frame gantry cranes, to goliath and semi-goliath cranes and swing jib cranes. From design and manufacture, to maintenance and repair, and inspections we deliver outstanding services for all our cranes. All of our used cranes are modified to suit your exact requirements. We re-paint, fit new electrics, service and thoroughly examine every crane before it leaves our workshop.
Our Cranes
Overhead Travelling Cranes
Our overhead travelling cranes are ideal for warehouses, factories, and heavy lifting industries. We provide crane solutions that are tailored to your site and lifting requirements. It moves horizontally along elevated rails.

Single Girder Overhead Travelling Crane
Single girder overhead cranes use one main beam (girder) to support the hoist, which typically runs along the bottom flange. They are a lighter, more cost-effective crane solution for general lifting tasks. They are ideal for lighter loads, smaller spans, and facilities where headroom is limited. Commonly used in workshops, warehouses, and light manufacturing environments.
Double Girder Overhead Travelling Crane
Double girder overhead cranes use two parallel beams, with the hoist running on top of the girders. This design provides greater strength, stability, and lifting capability. They are suited for heavier loads, longer spans, and more demanding industrial applications. Typically used in heavy manufacturing, steelworks, and environments requiring high lifting capacity.
Mobile A-Frame Gantry Cranes
A-Frame/Mobile Gantry Cranes are widely used in industry in conjunction with hand or power operated lifting appliances where a temporary runway structure is required to perform both lifting and linear moving operations. They are a free standing structure comprising a runway beam and two supports assembled in a goalpost-like configuration.

Goliath Cranes
Goliath cranes are full gantry systems supported by legs on both sides, running along ground-level rails. They are ideal for heavy-duty lifting in outdoor or large open environments, such as fabrication yards, ports, and industrial sites where overhead crane systems aren’t practical.
Semi-Goliath Cranes
Semi-goliath cranes use a hybrid design, with one side supported by a ground-mounted leg and the other running on an elevated runway beam. This combines elements of both gantry and overhead crane systems. They are suited to environments where space or structural limitations prevent a full gantry system, offering a flexible and efficient solution for medium to heavy lifting tasks.
Swing Jib Cranes
Jib Cranes consist of a horizontal jib arm, which is supported by a pillar or by an existing feature of a building, such as a wall or column. The arm is fitted with either a manual hoist, an electric chain hoist (E.C.H) or a pneumatic hoist (air hoist). Typical examples of their use being over work benches, in fitting and maintenance shops, over machine tools and in loading and unloading bays.

Lifting and Spreading Beams
Lifting and spreading beams are attachments used with cranes to safely handle loads. They are designed to distribute weight evenly and improve stability during lifting operations. They are ideal for lifting wide, heavy, or awkward loads where standard hooks aren’t suitable, helping to reduce stress on the load and improve control and safety.
