Swing Jib Cranes

Swing Jib Cranes (or slewing jib cranes) are widely used in industry in conjunction with manual or power operated lifting appliances where a permanent facility is required to perform both lifting and limited moving operations. Typical examples of their use being over work benches, in fitting and maintenance shops, over machine tools and in loading and unloading bays.

They offer a wide area of floor coverage within the slewing radius of the jib arm and are ideal where full overhead travelling crane coverage may be either impracticable or uneconomic. They are often used to supplement overhead travelling cranes.

Structure of a Jib Crane

Jib Cranes consist of a horizontal jib arm (or boom), which is supported by a pillar or by an existing feature of a building, e.g. a wall or column. The boom is fitted with either a manual hoist, an electric chain hoist (E.C.H) or a pneumatic hoist (air hoist).

The hoist is generally moveable along the length of the jib, allowing for both horizontal and vertical movement.

Depending on the exact installation, the boom will often pivot, moving the load in an arc. If the Swing Jib Crane is fitted to a free-standing floor-mounted pillar the boom will have from 270 – 360 degree boom rotation. Jib Cranes supported by a wall mount will provide 180 degrees of boom rotation at most.

When choosing your Swing Jib Crane it is important for you to take into consideration the exact range of movement you will need as well as the location you will be working in. To pick the ideal crane type to meet your needs speak to our highly-trained advisors today.
