Lifting Equipment Inspection

As any crane operator or construction site manager knows, there are many strict health and safety rules that must be followed when using lifting equipment.

Not least of which is the need, under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regualtions (LOLER) of 1998, to carry out Lifting Equipment Inspections.  To make life easier for you, crane specialists Harold Potter Ltd, offers this service to all lifting gear users.

What is Lifting Equipment Inspection?

We carry out a thorough examination of your lifting gear to ensure that it is in full working order.  This includes a visual inspection and may involve proof load testing, using calibrated test weights hired from Condor Test Weights.

We are looking for signs of damage or disrepair that may be affecting the working of your crane or accessories.  Specific concerns are cracks or corrosions in the crane structure, defective or damaged parts and that all components work correctly.

If we find any faults with your lifting gear, we will make a record of it.  We will also make recommendations for you based on our findings and can carry out any maintenance and repair work for you.

How Often Does Our Gear Need Inspecting?

By law, thorough examination and inspection needs to be conducted regularly before by a competent person.  Lifting equipment that carries people needs inspecting every 6 months along with all lifting accessories used below the hook such as shackles, eye bolts, webbing slings and chain slings, for lifting appliances such as overhead cranes, hoists, and jib cranes should be examined every 12 months.

A competent person must always carry out inspections and provide a report you so that you can fix any problems with your cranes and accessories.  This report is vitally important to you as an employer as it provides evidence that you are following safety procedures properly.

Go ahead and book one of our engineers to carry out inspections on your lifting equipment.  If you have any questions or concerns our sales team will be happy to help.
