A Jib Crane is a basic piece of lifting gear that is ideal for simple lifting solutions.
The ease of installation and use makes it ideal for use in small-scale factory settings. You may find Jib Cranes used in small engineering companies, where it is used to load work in and out of a lathe for machining. |
|
| As the typical capacity of a Jib Crane is a WLL of just 500 kg they are normally unsuitable for use in large-scale industrial applications. They are also not appropriate for precise lifting of heavy equipment, when you should choose an overhead crane instead. | |

Structure of a Jib Crane
Jib Cranes consist of a horizontal jib (or boom), which is supported by a pillar or by an existing feature of a building, e.g. a wall or column. The boom is fitted with either a manual hoist, an electric chain hoist (E.C.H) or a pneumatic hoist (air hoist). The hoist is generally moveable along the length of the jib, allowing for both horizontal and vertical movement. Depending on the exact installation, the boom will often pivot, moving the load in an arc. If the Jib Crane is fitted to a free-standing floor-mounted pillar the boom will have from 270 - 360 degree boom rotation. Jib Cranes supported by a wall mount will provide 180 degrees of boom rotation at most. When choosing your Jib Crane it is important for you to take into consideration the exact range of movement you will need as well as the location you will be working in.
